CALL FOR PROPOSALS – UNTOLD TALES: MICRO-COMMISSIONS

Animate Projects and Anim18 are partnering to commission a series of micro-shorts for the Anim18 programme – a UK-wide celebration of British animation taking place until November 2018.

We are looking to commission one micro-short from an open call process that alongside a few other commissioned will premiere on Instagram, and will be offered to Anim18 exhibition partners to share with audiences via a bespoke VR Gallery, launching at venues including QUAD in Derby in November.

We are looking for an animation that will give voice to untold stories of life in the UK, and explore our rich and culturally diverse communities. You could unearth and explore hidden histories, engage with a little known British folktale or folkloric tradition, or take inspiration from current issues such as the centenary of Votes for Women, the immigration crisis, or contemporary communities.

We are looking for ideas that will stir up feelings in the viewer (such as inspiration, compassion or delight). In the spirit of Anim18 we wish to push the boundaries of animation technically and thematically, and at the same time encourage those who might not otherwise stumble upon animation to experience how brilliant the medium is. We are looking for ideas that will resonate with people from a range of backgrounds, and that people will want to share, repost, like, and comment on.
