Daughters of the Late Colonel – Festival News
We are thrilled to share the news that Daughters of the Late Colonel, Elizabeth Hobbs’ latest hand painted animation, will have its World Premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight, Cannes, France in May and following this will be screening in the Short Film competition at Krakow Film Festival and then the Short Films competition at Annecy Festival in June.
After the death of their ill-tempered and controlling father, two middle-aged sisters find themselves at a loss. An unexpected visitor sparks the courage in them to begin their lives anew. Daughters of the Late Colonel is a merry, rude, and lyrical, animated adaptation of the modernist short story of the same name, written by Katherine Mansfield in 1920.
Elizabeth Hobbs is an award winning animated filmmaker based in London. Her films have travelled widely to international film festivals and won many awards. Animate has produced five of her films, including I’m OK which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2019 (and was co-produced with the National Film Board of Canada), and in 2022, The Debutante won 15 awards and was shortlisted for an Academy Award (and was supported by the BFI Short Form Animation Fund).
