Jessica Ashman’s Dawta debuts at Flatpack Festival
We are pleased to announce that Jessica Ashman‘s Dawta will premiere at the Flatpack Festival Autumn Edition on Saturday 25 September. Book now to witness this new audio-visual work live at MAC, Birmingham.
Combining experimental animation techniques and live musical performance (guitar and loops from Jessica Ashman, and drums from visual artist Bimpe Alliu), this AV show by artist animator and musician Jessica Ashman explores the idea of inherited cycles of trauma in Blackness through a time traveller called Dawta. Inspired by archival research into trans-racial adoption and her own family history, Dawta is a story of escaping the past through the imagining of an unknown future; through the imagining of an unknown hope.
Flatpack Festival presents a feast of screenings and audiovisual performances from 23 to 26 September, check out the full programme here.
Dawta is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and is produced by Animate Projects.
If you would be interested in presenting Dawta at your festival or venue, please email us at info@animateprojects.org for more information.
