Bloomers & The Flounder
A film by Samantha Moore, made in collaboration with Swedish composer Malin Bång.
Samantha Moore is an animated documentary maker. Her awards include Nature Scientific Merit at Imagine Science Film Festival 2010 for An Eyeful of Sound and Visual Science Award at Imagine Science Abu Dhabi 2017 for Loop. Samantha is a senior lecturer in animation at the University of Wolverhampton, a senior fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, and has a PhD about the way animation can be used to document perceptual brain states, such as phantom limb syndrome and face blindness.
Animated fabric brings the story of a lingerie factory in Manchester to life. Silk, cotton and lace go under the camera, as the workers recount the history of Ella & me, the UK garment manufacturing industry, and British family traditions of making. A specially composed soundtrack by Swedish composer Malin Bång, inspired by sounds of sewing machinery, evokes the ups and downs of the factory.

The Flounder
A film by Elizabeth Hobbs, made in collaboration with German composer Carola Bauckholt.
Elizabeth Hobbs is an animator based in East London. Her films are notable for their strong narratives, diverse techniques, and are often based on unusual and overlooked historical stories and figures. Elizabeth has won many awards, and has been nominated for the BAFTA British Short Animation 2019 for I’m OK. She enjoys sharing her practice through lecturing and workshops, and often collaborates with the Creative Research Collective and the artist Emily Tracy.
One day a humble fisherman catches an enchanted fish. Can the fish help him, and his wife improve their lot? The Flounder is an adaptation of the Brothers Grimm tale ‘The Fisherman and his Wife’, with painted animation by Elizabeth Hobbs and an original score by composer Carola Bauckholt.
