WORK to premiere at QUAD

Book now for the screening and Q&A on Thursday 28 November at 6.30pm at QUAD in Derby.

We are pleased to announce the premiere of four new artists’ films made for WORK, a two year project exploring the realities of what ‘work’ means for the way we live today, and the experiences of contemporary workers.

WORK is a collaboration between Animate and four Midlands arts organisations: QUAD, Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, Vivid Projects and Junction Arts. Each organisation worked with an artist, helping them engage workers in the process of making their film.

The artists made their films in Derby, Thrapston in Northamptonshire, Birmingham and Bolsover, each responding to the particular situation in the region.

Dryden Goodwin worked with QUAD, and his film explores the rhythms of a care worker’s day as he navigates the city with his clients.

Based with Fermynwoods Contemporary Art, in Northamptonshire, Jenny Holt worked with four young workers, in the context of a historically rural, farming community and its recent development as a site for internationally networked distribution hubs.

Adam Lewis-Jacob, working with Vivid Projects in Birmingham, took the Trade Union Resource Centre archive as his starting point for a film about collective activism.

Working with Junction Arts in Chesterfield, Esther Johnson’s film tells individual stories of the impact of economic changes brought from post-industrialisation in Bolsover.

The WORK films premiere at a special screening at QUAD in Derby on Thursday 28 November, followed by a Q&A with the artists. Admission is free but booking is essential.

WORK is also asking people to share their own work stories, and to be part of a bigger conversation. Share you stories here. Or engage with the project on social media #WORKproject

WORK is supported by Jerwood Arts and using public funding by Arts Council England.
