A second Grand Prize for The Debutante
We are pleased as punch that Elizabeth Hobbs’ The Debutante has been awarded the Grand Prize for the Short Film International Competition at the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF) 2022. The jury said: “the film makes us feel an instinctive sympathy for this girl who doesn’t want to be a good girl. We witness a conservative and patriarchal society that forces this debutante, which makes her deny who she is and find no way but to let her inner hyena come out. It is the story of a time and place that may have not changed that much.” Full list of winners can be found here.
Previously the film won the Grand Prix at ANIMATOR Festival in Poland, the Yarnspinner Special Mention at Animist Tallinn, and was nominated for the Mephisto 97.6 Audience Award, at DOK Leipzig in Germany.
The Debutante is a film by Elizabeth Hobbs, produced by Animate Projects, with the support of the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery, and with thanks to the Estate of Leonora Carrington.
