Touching Visions: call for proposals

Animate Projects and MAAP are working with Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds on two commissions for permanent exhibition in its Hand Transplant Gallery, opening in Summer 2020 following a comprehensive refurbishment of the Museum’s galleries and public facilities.

Commission One (£5,500) to presented on a monitor, without sound, at the entrance to the Gallery, is intended to provide visitors with a sense of awe at the human body and the hand in particular. The commission is likely to be appropriate for an artist working in animation, CGI, collage film or digital, or taking a hybrid approach.

Commission Two (£10,000) is for a projection (one or two screens) in its own space at the end of the exhibition, reflecting on the human experience. We anticipate that this will be a creative documentary approach, with testimony/commentary from a range of people.

The commissioned artists will develop their ideas through an R&D phase in which they will have the opportunity to consult and engage with the community of patients, surgical, nursing and support staff.

Deadline for proposals: noon 3 January 2020.

Delivery of works: May 2020.
