Derbyshire Makes History: call for filmmakers

Animate is excited to be working with Local and Derbyshire County Council on Derbyshire Makes History – commissioning six short films by three filmmakers, exploring the county’s heritage of making.

Derbyshire Makes History is part of Derbyshire Makes, an ambitious county-wide creative community programme, celebrating the past, present and future of making and creativity in the county. The films – live action and/or animated – will tell the stories of the people, processes and skills involved in some of Derbyshire’s key historical and industrial products.

We’re looking for three filmmakers to make two films each, focused on one of three key industries: Textiles/Knitting, Ceramics, Mining/Quarrying.

The total fee/production cost for the two films per filmmaker is £16,000. The deadline for submissions is noon, 24 November 2025.
